Welcome to Mayfield Lodge
Mayfield Lodge is a very special and unique 3-bedroom children’s home for children with learning disabilities. At Mayfield Lodge, we believe that all children need to feel safe, not just in their homes but also in the surrounding area. Just as any parents would want for their children to live in a safe area, so too is our belief and desire to offer a safe surrounding to the young people placed at Mayfield Lodge.
Based in Bournemouth and just a short stroll to the golden, sandy beaches and fresh sea air, Mayfield Lodge is in an ideal location for young people to feel safe, supported and secure enough for them to develop. As well as being a magnet for tourists, Bournemouth has a robust infrastructure for its local residents, with one of the widest range of indoor and outdoor activities for young people in the UK. With one of the lowest national crime rates, high-achieving schools and colleges, its own university and plenty of opportunities for school leavers, it’s little wonder the area has become increasingly popular with people looking to relocate from London.
At Mayfield Lodge, we ensure daily living skills and activities are meaningful, memorable and are planned to meet the needs of individual children in areas that are personal to them. Our staff are dedicated to supporting children in a manner that is centred and focused around their individual needs, hobbies and skills. The emphasis is always on the young people in our care, in tending, supporting and developing throughout their time with us.
Comfort & style
Every room at Mayfield Lodge, from communal areas to bedrooms, has been designed, decorated and furnished with our children in mind. We want everyone that stays with us to feel relaxed, secure and at home.
The home has three individual bedrooms, a games/sensory room, a lounge, open plan kitchen and dining area, outside area and home gym. Bedrooms can be personalised, which can be commenced during the child’s settling-in visits.
Enjoying & Achieving
A healthy lifestyle is encouraged for all young people. We recognise that for some children we will need to make additional efforts to ensure they participate and access quality leisure and social time. Mayfield Lodge will actively support each child to engage in out of school, extra curriculum activities, personal interests and hobbies. We would promote the child’s interests and hobbies to enable them to find their strengths and skills to develop self-esteem, confidence and trust.
We have access to transport to increase the opportunities for everyone to enjoy and participate in fun and leisure-based activities together. There is a significant emphasis from Mayfield Lodge on the benefits gained by all in participation of group based as well as solo activities. These group activities don’t have to take place with those residing within the home, but through other group activities within the community i.e. football team. We believe this helps build relationships within the wider community and create a sense of belonging.
Children will be supported to identify activities they would like to participate in. This will then be part of an ongoing calendar of activities that includes after school and school holiday activities. In addition, there will be some special activities that will be linked to rewards and recognition of progress. Every child will be supported in attending important religious and cultural festivals if they wish.
